  2. Dual Enrollment courses are enrichment courses and do not replace a class within a student's schedule during the school day.

Reminders About Taking Community College Classes
 
  1. The pace of college classes may be faster than what you are used to.  You are expected to do a lot of independent work.  Be familiar with the platforms your professors use in their classes. 
  2. You are potentially impacting your high school and college transcripts.  This class could help earn college units and can earn high school credits.  It is good to get a jump start in your college classes and even satisfy your high school graduation requirements. However, if you do not do well in the class, you can negatively impact your transcripts.
  3. Additionally, how well you do in your college class can potentially impact your access to financial aid.  This is something you should seriously consider.
  4. The course work for this class would be in addition to your current course work assigned at Ramon C. Cortines High School.  There may be more reading required. 
  5. You are considered as a college student.  It is expected that you are independent and would be responsible for completing all your work to pass the class. 
  6. Be mindful that you cannot simply choose to not attend a class.  You must drop the class within a week from it starting to make sure that there would be no negative impact in your college transcripts. Be mindful that there is deadline to when you can drop a class without a “W” and with a “W.”  It is best to drop the class ahead of time. 
  7. You can be dropped from the class if you do not attend the session – synchronous and asynchronous – or miss too many assignments.
  8. Always advocate for yourself.  If you need anything, reach out to your professor.  Do not think they know what you need. 
  9. As a high school student taking a college class, tuition is free.  Remember to work with your counselor to get the special application for this.  You will be responsible for the cost of the books and the materials used in class.
Responsibilities of a College Student 
 
  • Student must adhere to attend all scheduled classes and follow the course syllabus.
  • Student must adhere to the College Student Code of Conduct, all college policies, and meet all deadlines, prerequisites, and expectations as college students.
  • Student may be dropped by the instructor if the student does not comply with the Code of Conduct or other policies.
  • If student stops attending class after the drop deadline, the student will receive a W or F on their college transcript.
  • Grades cannot be removed from the college transcript.
  • All grades count toward college GPA which can affect your financial aid reward even if you do not attend LACC in the future.
  • For Concurrent Enrolled Courses:  At the end of each semester, a student must submit a copy of both an official transcript and an unofficial transcript.  The unofficial transcript can easily be generated through the student portal.  Please email it to me at [email protected].  The official transcript may be ordered through Parchment for a minimal fee.  (Be sure you create an account with them.)
